Summer is over, so that means it's time for our annual in-service meetings at work.  It's always great to see everyone, especially those who work at other sites that I hardly ever get to see.  This year the first day of our meetings was held at the lovely Benham School House Inn in Benham, KY.  We've had meetings there before, so that's why I was startled to see this sign in the parking lot:

Luckily, no bears made an appearance.  It must have been due to the heat.  When I got back to my car in the afternoon, I was greeted with this alarming sight:

I'm already looking forward to the cooler fall weather, even though that also means it will be football time in Tennessee, and therefore an inescapable orange frenzy for the rest of the year.

I came across your blog while googling photos of Benham School House Inn and instantly burst into laughter. Let me explain why.

Several years ago my paranormal team and I investigated at Benham-- amazing experience but that's another story. We stayed until somewhere around six a.m. but by four we were all exhausted and in the realm of what some might call "slap happy". We were taking a snack/smoke/energy drink break outside when one of our investigators went to throw down a cigarette butt. Another investigator stopped him and said, "No, don't thrown that down. It will cause bears." She pointed at the sign and then we all cracked up. Of course, what she was trying to say but was too exhausted to articulate was "that will draw in bears" but the way it came out was far more amusing.

From then on, it became a running joke that our team "causes bears". We even had a nice t-shirt design with a spooky looking bear that says "PATS: We Cause Bears".

Isn't Benham a magical place? It's like going back in time. I'm glad to have come across your blog and I'm even more glad to see that someone else appreciates that sign... the one about causing bears!

Thanks so much for your comments! I'd love to have seen some ghosts at Benham, but no go. No bears, either. I must have visited on a slow day!
